Fuvahmulah City · Fuvahmulah Island
An easy reef dive on Fuvahmulah, a solitary oceanic island in the far south of the Maldives (Gnaviyani Atoll), named for the sea fans that decorate its wall. It's a gentle, Open Water–friendly dive: the top reef sits at 5–7 m and steps down through 18–30 m before sloping into the blue, the slope lined with gorgonian sea fans and good macro. Pelagic threshers and tiger sharks cruise past off the wall rather than crowding a cleaning station, and oceanic mantas appear in season. On the reef itself, giant trevallies, barracudas, groupers, snappers and white-tip reef sharks share the water with schools of fusiliers, while boxfish and nudibranchs reward divers who slow down and look close.
