Fuvahmulah City · Fuvahmulah Island
A drift dive on the reef at Fuvahmulah, a solitary oceanic island in the far south of the Maldives (Gnaviyani Atoll). The current gives it gentle movement rather than the strong flow of the island's plateaus, so it stays an accessible drift for Open Water divers — you ride the reef and let it carry you. The top reef sits at 5–7 m and steps down through 18–30 m before sloping into the blue. It's one of Fuvahmulah's thresher shark cleaning-station reefs, where these deep-water sharks rise from below to be groomed, with oceanic mantas passing through in season. Along the reef, giant trevallies, barracudas, groupers and snappers hold in the current, and both green and hawksbill turtles are regular company. Boat entry.
