Kihaadhuffaru Thila

A pinnacle attached to the east side of Kihaadhuffaru Reef in Baa Atoll, its top rising to just 4 m. Divers typically cross between the reef and the thila depending on the current direction, so it works as a drift. The fish life is excellent, over a striking mix of hard and soft corals: eagle rays and grey reef sharks hold in the current, schools of blue-lined and red snappers gather, and nurse sharks rest beneath the overhangs, while bluefin trevally and dogtooth tuna pass through. It's good for macro too — nudibranchs and mantis shrimp tuck into the reef, with lionfish, octopus and stingrays around. The ideal maximum depth is 30 m, where a long chain of overhangs rewards exploration. Boat entry.
